After using the INSTA360 X3 camera attached to my helmet for ski logging a few times, I noticed that its short battery life can be quite annoying. Even with two extra batteries, it's not enough to log a full day, and it's not always convenient to stop and change the battery on the slope. Then, I discovered 3BR Powersports' solution to resolve this exact problem.
Before the next skiing season, I decided to conduct a few quick tests and measurements. Here are the results:
- 3BR Powersports X3 cage and weatherproof extended power cable

- When recording at 5.7k 30fps mid bitrate at 26 degrees Celsius, the camera did not overheat.
- An external 10,000 mAh mobile battery and internal battery lasted around 7 hours
- The video was split into clips every 29 minutes, with around 20 seconds between each clip.
- Each 29-minute clip takes up approximately 18.5GB of storage.
- The GPS remote records coordinates at 10Hz based on the GPX file exported by Insta360 studio.
- The time stamp embedded in the video filename is quite accurate, within 1 second.
- Clock sync check: iPad -> NTP sync, Clock -> Japan radio clock sync
- First frame of the video - actual time, GPS time, file name time aligned
First data point of GPX extracted from the video:2024-06-09T02:29:21ZFile name: VID_20240609_102920_10_004
- Last frame of the video - actual time and GPS time aligned
